I have come to love those rainy days where it rains so loud that you cannot carry on a conversation with the person in the room with you. It’s the type of rain that brings a roar through your home, causes streams (often looking like rivers) to run down your street, and brings our tropical temperatures to a palatable 26 or 27 degrees Celsius. Yay for long-sleeved pjs for my little guy.
Rain brings something else; a darkness with its clouds that is guaranteed to eventually be swept away by another day’s sun. This is where we find ourselves as a family.
We made a decision to step onto a path which less beaten then others. In making that decision, we knew that there would be challenges unexpected and things unseen. The more we walk in this life, the more we realize that the ‘unseen’ has become a close companion. This, however, is something we have come to embrace.
The less we know the more we are forced to rely on things, people, faith outside of ourselves. The less we see the easier it is to exercise and grow our trust, faith, hope in our Higher belief system. The old adage of “less is more” pushes us to experience our life, our journey, the way we were asked to. Unknown, yes, but a guarantee that there will be a clarity at the end.
No, it doesn’t make it easy. It doesn’t take away the natural sting of distance from family, comforts of home, or other such ‘sacrifices’. We do, however, find a contentment in this peering through…. As though there is ABSOLUTELY something drawing us forward, even in the darkness, that banishes the negative moments long enough to sense that the day’s sun is about to sweep it aside. Then, and only then, it will be clear!
